The house rises through the slope in stages, surrounded by ponds, stone paths and mature forests. Lower levels sit close to the garden while the upper spaces open towards the Banhoek Valley and the mountains beyond.
There is no single moment when the entire property reveals itself. It unfolds as you move through it.
Designed by instinct. Built by hand.
ForestFall was designed and built by its owner, giving the house a character that feels personal from the first room to the last.
Raw concrete carries the marks of its making. Exposed brick, steel and dark walls bring strength and depth to the interiors. Timber softens the harder edges, appearing in floors, doors, tables, counters and carefully crafted details throughout the house.
Rooms change in mood and material as you move between levels, yet each remains part of the same vision.
Evenings begin around the island
The principal living level was made for the easy movement of a long evening.
The kitchen opens into the dining room, bar and lounge, allowing everyone to remain part of the same conversation. Someone can cook while others gather around the island. Wine finds its way to the dining table. Later, the group drifts towards the bar or settles beside the fire.
When the plates have been cleared, the handcrafted bar waits against a wall of exposed brick. Timber shelving, mirrored glass and industrial lighting give it the atmosphere of a private drinking room hidden inside the house.
Follow the sound of water
The garden begins close to the house then continues down the slope in layers.
Stone stairs disappear behind ferns. Palms and cycads rise beneath mature trees. Paths cross water, curve between walls and arrive at terraces hidden from the levels above.
Ponds hold the reflections of leaves and sky. Small cascades move through rock channels, bringing the sound of water close to the house throughout the day.
The garden is steep, textured and alive. Its paths, ponds and changing levels form an essential part of ForestFall's character.
At the top, the valley opens
The stairs rise through the house until the trees finally give way to sky.
ForestFall's covered upper deck looks across cultivated slopes, vineyards and rugged mountain faces. Its built-in jetted spa sits within a raised timber platform beneath the roof, protected from the sun while remaining open to the mountain air.
After the many levels, rooms and garden paths below, the upper deck feels like the final reveal. The house ends here. The view continues.
Wake beneath the forest. Follow the paths through forest, stone and water. Cook, gather, open the wine and light the fire.
Watch the mountains from the bath then climb to the upper deck as the valley settles into evening. For a few days, ForestFall is yours.
